Mr. Tyrone Joubert's Success Story

Tyrone

Honours in Financial Analysis and Portfolio Management

  • The Investment Guru

Tyrone, the youngest child in a family of six, matriculated at Hout Bay Secondary School in 2000. His family struggled financially because their earning capacity dropped substantially with new introduction of fishing quotas around 1998. His father was already suffering ill heath, and it was a blow to the family to have their income drastically cut by this legislation.

Optimism and Perseverance

Tyrone was the only member of his family to achieve a good matric pass and have the opportunity to go to university – encouraged by the Head Master of his school at the Hout Bay Harbour. The principal convinced him to have faith that a solution would be found, and insisted he register at the University of Cape Town. The principal’s optimism paid off. Link-SA Trust came into Tyrone’s world and threw him a safety line in the form of a scholarship.

He worked extremely hard to prove to his donors that he was worth the money we invested in his university fees and living expenses. During his years at university, Tyrone was placed on the Dean’s Merit List two years running. Tyrone’s main focus was towards Investment Banking, and soon after graduating with a B Com in 2004, was employed by one of the leading investment banking organisations in South Africa. The photograph you see is of Tyrone and his proud parents, attending Tyrone’s graduation.

Tyrone said to the principal: “My parents have NO money for further education.” The principal convinced him to have faith that a solution would be found, and insisted he register at the University of Cape Town.

Carried out Part-time Studies

While working full time in 2005, Tyrone carried on with part-time studies for his Honours in Financial Analysis and Portfolio Management which qualification has assisted him greatly in his career.

A Leading Example

Tyrone is the type of student we enjoy bringing to the attention of potential donors as he has, since his school days as the Head Boy at his school exhibited determination, leadership qualities, dedication to his studies, as well as having a keen sense of social responsibility. During his undergraduate years, Tyrone gave freely of his time to teach mathematics to school children in Khyelitsha, an impoverished area of Cape Town. Tyrone is to this day committed to assisting the youth in this city.

Tyrone is married and has two daughters. He proudly states that he will be able to provide very well for his family, all because he was given the chance to gain excellent degrees and take up employment in a prestigious organisation. He is, to this day, employed by the same investment company in Cape Town where he has received several promotions. His is a great success story!

Link-SA Trust were proud when Tyrone Joubert accepted the offer to join our Board of Trustees on which he has served for over six years.
